“I’ve even played chess with Nixon,” reminds me of a cartoon by Dave Brown (byline David L Brown). It shows Nixon looking at a board, detailing his opponent’s overwhelming material advantage, noting serious time trouble (in tournament chess, each player has limited time to make his moves), responding to “Mate in Five,” but refusing to resign.
It was probably originally published in “Northwest Chess” in the early ’70s; I have a copy in the pamphlet White & Black From Brown (Vampade, 1995).
